The arena rock group behind one of the fastest-selling debut albums in history, Boston was the vehicle of studio wizard Tom Scholz. After graduating from M.I.T., Sholz began work for Polaroid and set about constructing his own 12-track recording studio in the basement of his home. There he teamed with vocalist Brad Delp, and together they landed a contract with Epic Records in 1975.
Boston released three hit singles ("More Than a Feeling," "Long Time," and "Peace of Mind"), and shot immediately to the top of the charts. Following the initial overwhelming success, the group spent two years working on its follow-up, 1978's No. 1 hit Don't Look Back. The chart-topping album Third Stage did not appear until 1986. Over its 35-year history, Boston has sold more than 31 million albums in the United States.
